We are still featuring plus size and Black business owners. This week we are proud to introduce you to fashionista and boutique owner, Tia Jackson. See how she is making an impact as a member of the plus size community.

Who is your Black History hero and why?

My Black History hero is Cathy Hughes, she successfully created a platform for Black media with Urban One. As the largest African American radio chain, she gave us a voice where we did not have one. I am especially touched by her journey as she has embarked on creating Urban One while raising her family as a single mother.

How do you plan to make an impact as a Black member of the plus size community?

I strive to make an impact in both the Black and plus size community by encouraging women to challenge society’s ideal of beauty. Wear what makes you feel good, walk with your head held high and do not allow someone’s distorted view of what you should be – control your narrative. Each time I style or dress a customer I am always encouraging them to try something bold and new, like a jumpsuit, a bold color etc.

A fun fact about yourself

I am left-handed and my soul gravitates to old school R&B.
