We’re Celebrating Juneteenth and you should too!
Today we commemorate the end of slavery. Did you know that in 1776 the US became independent from England however Black Americans were not emancipated until 87 years later. Although Lincoln declared freedom for all slaves. It took two years for the last slaves to be emancipated in Galveston, Texas. Juneteenth may not be a federal holiday but today we're celebrating the emancipation of African Americans.
Wondering how you can celebrate? Well, first thing you should do is educate your friends and family about Juneteenth and then go ahead and support a black-owned business or perhaps host a memorial BBQ to commemorate all the Black lives lost to slavery and racism.
