For Curvy Adventurers: Captain Moses’ Clear Kayak in Jamaica Celebrates Every Body

Let me set the scene: Late October, tropical vibes, and the sandy shores of Jamaica are calling our names. We had one mission in mind—to find the ultimate clear kayak photo shoot company that didn’t flinch at the sight of a few extra curves. We thought it would be a breeze, right? Kayaks float. They’re made for water. But let me tell you, the internet had other plans. Every company we found, one after the other, seemed to have a 225 to 250-pound weight limit. Like…what?! Floating is the point of a kayak!

Iya, our fearless founder with deep Jamaican roots, decided there was no way we’d be beaten by some arbitrary restrictions. She put it plain and simple: if we wanted to find what we needed, it would be feet on the ground in Jamaica. So off we went, joining Curvy Ventures for a vacation like no other, landing in Negril ready to pound the pavement.

Enter Captain Moses—the holy grail of plus-sized water adventures. We stumbled upon this gem of a company with our hopes up but keeping it real because, you know, been burned before. The owner greeted us like we were old friends, radiating the kind of hospitality that makes Jamaica feel like home. He saw us, he got us, and best of all, he was down to make sure we felt safe, supported, and fabulous on that crystal-clear kayak.

Now, here’s the part where we’ll say, “Toya went first.” Because yes, there’s always some skepticism when you’ve had too many “We don’t accommodate” moments. But Toya climbed in, gave us that thumbs up, and honey—she looked like a goddess from above, thanks to their drone photography. Kat went next, and let me tell you, the photos came out like a Vogue spread, island edition. We’re talking next-level amazing.

The best part? Captain Moses’s whole vibe was all about accommodating, not excluding. Iya even chatted with the owner afterward, sharing our struggles with finding activities like this that are truly inclusive. He told her, “We don’t discriminate, we accommodate.” Period! If an activity is normally typically situated for four, he’s willing to adjust to three or even two, making every effort to create a safe and joyful experience for plus-sized bodies.

So if you’re heading to Jamaica and you want the clear kayak experience without feeling like you need a “plus one” for your curves, Captain Moses in Negril is where you need to be. Head to the Margaritaville entrance to Seven Mile Beach (or one of the other entrances) and check them out. They’re on Instagram at Glass Kayak Negril if you want to see some sneak peeks.

When you book with them, don’t forget to say Shapely sent you. And prepare yourself for some of the most freeing, empowering, and downright fabulous photos you’ve ever had. For every plus-size girl who’s been told “not this time” by other companies, Captain Moses will leave you feeling seen, celebrated, and unstoppable.

Huge thanks to Toya and Kat for embarking on this plus size find with us. To learn more about Toya, feel free to check her out on Instagram. For more about Kat, you can also find her on instagram.
