Christian Siriano Understood the Assignment
I’ve followed Christian Siriano since his days on Project Runway and have long been a fan. At that time, I would have never thought he would be the plus size high fashion savior he is today. Christian really became a household name in the plus size world when plus size celebrities such as Leslie Jones, frustrated with high fashion designers either refusing to or not equipped to design for the plus size body, aired her frustrations and Cristian offered to accommodate. That design received tens across the board and Christian has been a plus size high fashion guru ever since.
Christian Siriano dropped his Spring 2022 spring collection at Gotham Hall where curves were on display. Several designs that were worn on “average sized” models were also worn by plus size models while some were unique to plus size models. Why is this important? Shapely has long pushed the need for representation and inclusivity. Christian Siriano champions this not only on the runway when the cameras are flashing, but in his day-to-day life which extends to his social media channels. He has consistently shown up when others designers would not and by doing this, sends a message that plus sizers everywhere are worthy of being draped in the same high fashion threads that are readily available for everyone else. Christian casted “curve” models before the term existed and before it was trendy to do so. Thank you Christian for being an advocate for diversity and inclusivity in plus size fashion and also championing that people of size are also worthy!
