We Outside!

A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER

The world is opening up and we’re pretty excited about it. So much so that we’ve packed this issue with plenty of travel related content full of tips, hacks and Fatty Friendly places and spaces. The Bahamas may be on the top of your bucket list but so are your finances. In our “Don’t Sleep on National Parks” article, you will find some stateside parks that will provide you with a similar experience in case life has other plans. We also have some clever ways to make the most of your travel memories.

As travel increases, don’t let your guard down. The COVID-19 Delta variant is in full swing. We encourage you to continue to follow CDC safety precautions and guidelines as you go about checking items off your travel bucket list.

Speaking of bucket list, if you don’t want to experience these sites alone, bring your squad along. In need of one? Returning Shapely contributor, Jasmine Omorogbe has some great tips on making new friends as an adult. Pretty soon you’ll be beach bound with your swim squad!

Our Summer Olympics ‘Going for Gold’ challenge is still going on. We love the submissions and continue to inspire others to get up, get out and get moving. With outside open, there’s no better time to try something new or return to a routine hindered by the pandemic. Make sure you’re following Shapely’s Instagram account@shapelyevents for challenge updates and a chance to be featured.

Lastly, I want to remind you that it’s ok to take up space. As a person who has struggled with life long insecurities, I know good and well what it’s like to be self-conscious about my appearance and how others view me. It’s time to reclaim your peace, access, and a positive image of your body as it is right now. Want to go paddle boarding? Do it! Want to cannonball at the community pool? Do it! Want to eat your ice cream while taking a stroll on the boardwalk? Do it! I will not sit here and pretend people will not stare or even make comments. What I can do is encourage you not to allow the negative and sometimes ignorant opinions, stop you from making the most of the summer.

Thanks for your continued support and participation. Enjoy this month’s issue of Shapely.
